Day 1 Review
Game 1: Calgary Bisons (1) vs St Albert Sabres (3)
The Bisons and Sabres kicked off provincials in Red Deer with a great game. The Sabres took a 2-0 lead after the first period, with goals from Walker Filewich and Chase Huberdeau. The Sabres outshot the Bisons 10-7 after one period of play. The second brought many chances but ultimately neither team was able to find the back of the net and the score remained 2-0 after two periods. The Sabres outshot the Bisons again by a margin of 16-8. The Sabres added to their lead 5 minutes into the third period with a shorthanded goal off coming off the stick of Reid Chuckery. The Bisons were able to get on the board half way through the third on a goal by Trace Stephen to make it a 3-1 game. The Bisons pressed but were not able to score again and the Sabres end up taking the game 3-1. Tyson Moreland stopped 24 of 25 to get the win. Wessan Chisholm stopped 31 of 34 in the loss. The ATB Players of the game were Tyson Moreland for the Sabres and Trace Stephen for the Bisons. The Sabres are up again today at 6:30pm taking on the host Red Deer Rebels. The Bisons next game is tomorrow at 10am vs the Calgary Northstars.

Game 2: Calgary Northstars (5) vs GPAC Storm (4)
The Northstars and Storm came out swinging as the Northstars took an early 1-0 lead just 1:47 into the period on a goal by Donny Sewall. The Storm came back to tie it up at 1-1 half way through the first on a beautiful goal by Cohenn Rotar. The Storm then took the lead 2-1 just 4 minutes later on a tally by Conrad Neudorf. Kruz Nyholt responded for the Northstars and the period ended at 2-2. Ben Oliverio gave the Northstars the lead a minute into the second, but 2 minutes later Nixon Bettenson responded for the Storm to tie the game at 3. The Northstars pulled ahead again on a goal by Luca Gadway seven minutes into the second. The score stayed at 4-3 until 16 seconds left when Robert Thomas tickled the twine to tie it at 4. The score stayed tied throughout most of the third and the game looked like it may go into overtime until Solomon Leyden tipped in a point shot with less than 2 minutes left to restore a one goal lead for the Northstars. The Storm pushed for the equalizer but ran out of time. Mason McDougall stopped 19 of 23 shots in the win. Adrien Brochu turned aside 37 of 42 shots in the loss. Brochu and Brook Haile were the ATB players of the game. The Northstars are back on the ice tomorrow at 10am vs the Calgary Bisons. The Storm take on the Red Deer Rebels at 12:45pm.

Game 3: St Albert Sabres (1) vs Red Deer Rebels (3)
The Rebels and Sabres were the marquise match up on day 1 in front of a packed house at Servus Arena. Each team had their chances and a couple of powerplays, but it was the Rebels that opened the scoring at 16:32 of the opening frame. Jaxon Jaffray beat Tyson Moreland upstairs with a shot from the slot. The period ended with the Rebels holding a 1-0 lead and a lead in shots 11-9. The second period brought more action at both ends but ultimately there were no goals scored and the Rebels headed into the third period still up 1-0. The shots after 2 periods favoured the Rebels 23-16. The Rebels doubled their lead a little over a minute into the third period. Noah Ulry tipped in a Nixon Wright shot from the point. The Sabres pressed the rest of the period and were able to cut the Rebels lead in half on a goal by Walker Filewich with about 2 minutes left in the game. The Rebels cemented the win with an empty net goal from Madden Daneault at 19:29. The Rebels outshot the Sabres 37-30. Rebels ATB player of the game, Lane Bullee, turned aside 29 of 30 shots for the win. Tyson Moreland stopped 35 of 37 in the loss. The Sabres ATB player of the game was Reid Chuckrey. The Rebels play twice on Friday starting at 12:45pm vs the GPAC Storm. The Sabres play the Calgary Northstars at 3:30pm.

Day 2 Review
Game 4: Calgary Northstars (2) vs Calgary Bisons (3)
The Northstars and Bisons started off day 2 of provincials with an entertaining game. The Bisons started strong and were rewarded with a goal 6 minutes in off the stick of Charlie Solomon. The Bisons doubled their lead at the 12 minute mark on a goal by Chase Turchak. The Northstars responded 30 seconds later to cut the Bisons lead in half with a goal from Kash Codd. The period ended with the Bisons leading 2-1. The Bisons outshot the Northstars 14-6 in period 1. The second period saw the Northstars tie the score at 2 on a powerplay goal by Brook Haile. The period ended with the score tied at 2-2. The third period was a back and forth affair until the Bisons pulled ahead by one on a goal by Jad Haymour half way through the period. The Northstars pressed for the equalizer but could not manage a goal. The Bisons take the game 3-2. Max Hartel stopped 32 of 34 shots in the win, while Evan Wandler stopped 32 of 35 in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Chace Turchak for the Bisons and Evan Wandler for the Northstars. the Northstars are back on the ice today at 3:30pm vs the St Albert Sabres. The Bisons also play tonight against the host Red Deer Rebels at 6:15pm.

Game 5: Red Deer Rebels (3) vs GPAC Storm (0)
The Rebels and Storm were the second game on the schedule. The Rebels got out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a quick shot from Lucas Wiens. The Rebels and Storm traded powerplays throughout but the period ended 1-0 for the Rebels. The Rebels held the advantage in shots on goal 15-5. The Rebels added to their lead six and a half minutes into the second on a powerplay goal from Brooks Newfield. The period ended with the Rebels leading 2-0. The Rebels held the shot advantage in the period 19-6, for a two period edge of 34-11. The Rebels took a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the third, as Jaxon Jaffray potted his second of the game on a nice feed from Brooks Newfield. The Rebles held the lead utill the end of the game and skated away with a 3-0 victory. Jace Lansing turned aside 16 shots for the shutout, while Bracken LaRocque (GPAC ATB player of the game) stopped 43 of 46 in the loss. The Rebels ATB player of the game was Brooks Newfield. The Storm play their next game tomorrow morning at 11:00am vs the St Albert Sabres. The Rebels are back on the ice this evening at 6:15pm against the Calgary Bisons.

Game 6: St Albert Sabres (4) vs Calgary Northstars (5)
The third game of the day brought together 2 teams with 1 win and 1 loss records. The Sabres scored to take an early lead on a goal by Ryan Van Iperen just 1:43 into the first period. The Northstars responded with about 4 minutes left when Damien Lavallee found the back of the net to tie the score at 1 a piece. The score at the end of the first was 1-1. The Sabres took the lead just over 2 minutes into the period on a powerplay goal by Chase Huberdeau. The Northstars scored a powerplay of their own to tie the game back up at 2. The Sabres took a 3-2 lead on a Roan Greschuk goal with about 4 minutes left in the second. The third period saw the Northstars score 3 unasnwered goals, by Brook Haile, Luke Wong and Haile with his second of the game to take a 5-3 lead, with the last one coming with lest than 5 minutes left. The Sabres were able to cut the lead to one with an Owen Archer marker at 19:05 but came up short as the Nothstars held on for the 5-4 victory. Mason McDougall turned aside 36 of 40 shots for the win. Tyson Moreland stopped 32 of 37 in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Ben Oliverio for the Northstars and Roan Greschuk for the Sabres. The Sabres finish of their round robin play by taking on the GPAC Storm at 11:00am on Saturday. The Northstars will take on the Red Deer Rebels Sunday at 1:45pm on Saturday.

Game 7: Calgary Bisons (1) vs Red Deer Rebels (3)
The Rebels and Bisons rounded out the day 2 schedule at Servus Arena. Each team came out of the gates hard but ultimately an entertaining first period ended in a 0-0 tie. The shots were also even 10-10. In the second period, both teams had there chances to take the lead but it was the Rebels that struck first. Noah Ulry tickled the twine with a quick shot to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. The Rebels doubled their lead as Lucas Wiens, with his second of Provincials, at 16:59. The Bisons responded at 19:31 of the second as Lucas Armstong’s shot from the point found the back of the net. The Rebels restored their 2 goal lead 13 seconds later with a goal from Easton Kelahear. The shots in the second were even again at 10 a piece. The third period saw the Bisons push to draw even with the Rebels but were unsuccessful. The Rebels came away victorious with a 3-1 win. Lane Bullee of the Rebels stopped 32 of 33 shots in the win. Max Hartel stopped 23 of 26 shots in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Easton Kelahear for the Rebels and Charlie Solomon for the Bisons. The Rebels finish off the round robin against the Calgary Northstars at 1:45pm. The Bisons finish their round robin with a game against GPAC at 4:30pm.

Day 3 Review
Game 8: GPAC Storm (1) vs St Albert Sabres (4)
The Storm and Sabres kicked off day 3 with a penalty filled affair. The Sabres took a 1-0 lead at 12:13 of the first on a goal by Kingsley MacLellan. The period ended at 1-0 Sabres. The Sabres held a 12-5 shot advantage in the first. The Storm clawed back to even the score at 8:23 on a goal by Ryan Sieker. The Sabres quickly took back the lead 40 seconds later on a goal by Brody Sunderland. The score stayed that way the rest of the period. The Sabres held the advantage in shots 29 to 11 after 2 periods. In the third, the Sabres added to their lead on goals by Owen Archer and Walker Filewich to extend the lead to 4-1. The Sabres cruised to the 4-1 victory. Shots at the end of the game were 43-14 favoring the Sabres. Felix Rossignol stopped 13 of 14 shots in the win, while Adrian Brochu turned aside 39 of 43 shots in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Brochu and Owen Archer. The Storm are back on the ice at 4:30pm in the last game of the round robin vs the Calgary Bisons. The Sabres concluded their round robin games and have a 2-2 record. They await the other games to see when they will play Sunday.

Game 9: Red Deer Rebels (3) vs Calgary Northstars (6)
The Rebels and Northstars finished off their round robin schedule on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels came in 3-0, while the Northstars came in 2-1. The Rebels had a few powerplays early but it was the Northstars that struck first with a shorthanded goal at 7:55. Nathan Kajmowicz sent a nice shot under the bar to give the Northstars a 1-0 lead. The teams traded chances the rest of the way and the Northstars headed into the second period with a 1-0 lead. They also lead on the shot clock 13-10. The second period saw both teams score twice. The Northstars took a 2-0 lead on a goal by ben Oliverio just 1:24 into the period. The Rebels responded at 10:14 on a nice point shot from Cruz Nicolay. The Northstars restored their 2 goal lead on a pwerplay goal by Brook Haile. The Rebels were able to cut the lead to one with just under 2 minutes left in the period, when Madden Daneault zipped one past the goalie. The shots after the second were 25-24 favouring the Northstars. The Northstars built on their lead potting 2 goals in the first 4 minutes. Brook Haile and Cash Codd got the goals. The Northstars extended the lead to 6-2 on a Thor Liffiton power play goal at 13:17. The Rebels made it 6-3 on a Brock Dubitz goal at 14:29. The game ended 6-3 in favour of the Northstars. The Northstars also lead in the shot department 32-28. Evan Wandler stopped 25 of 28 in the win and Jace Lansing turned aside 26 of 32 in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Cruz Nicolay for the Rebels and Thor Liffiton for the Northstars. These same 2 teams will play each other for gold tomorrow at 1:15pm.

Game 10: GPAC Storm (2) vs Calgary Bisons (3)
The Storm and Bisons completed the round robin portion of porvincials with an important game. The Storm needed a regulation win to secure a spot in the bronze medal game, where as the Bisons needed a tie or better advance to the bronze game. The Bisons opened the scoreing at 3:52 of the first on a goal by Trace Stephan. The Storm replied in the last minute of the period on a power play goal by Nixon Bettenson, making it 1-1 after one period. The shots in the first were 18-8 for the Bisons. In the second, the only goal was scored by the Storm. Nixon Bettenson, with his second of the game, gave the Storm a 2-1 lead heading into the third. The shots after 2 periods was 31-16 for the Bisons. The Bisons pushed hard during the third knowing what was at stake. After puling the goalie, Brady Luttmerding was able to put away a rebound to knot the game at 2 with less than a minute and a half left. The Storm pulled the goalie to try to pull out a win but Charlie Solomon dashed those hopes with an empty net goal at 19:54. Wessan Chisholm turned aside 19 of 21 shots in the win. Bracken LaRocque stopped 46 of 48 shots in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Brady Luttmerding for the Bisons and Nixon Bettenson for the Storm. The Storm are now done at provincials. We applaud their season this year and wish them safe travels. The Bison will take on the St Albert Sabres in the bronze medal game at 10:15am on Sunday.

Day 4 Review
Game 11 (Bronze Medal game): Calgary Bisons (2) vs St Albert Sabres (5)
The Sabres and Bisons met in the bronze medal game. The Sabres got out to an early lead on a power play goal by Brody Sunderland at 3:14. The Sabres doubled their lead 4 minutes later on a goal by Jayden Halabi. At the 16:45 mark of the first, Sinderland, with his second of the game, increased the Sabres lead to 3-0. The Sabres lead in the shot category also 14-6. The second period saw a change in the Bison net, as Wessan Chisholm took over for Max Hartel. The Bisons got on the board at 1:25 of the second on a power play goal from Chase Turchak. The game stayed 3-1 until late in the second period when Jayden Halabi scored a beauty of a breakaway goal (his second of the game) to extend the Sabres lead to 4-1. The shots after the second favoured the Sabres 25-16. In the third period, the teams traded goals, with Sabres forward Ryan Van Iperen providing a power play goal at 11:47 and Charlie Solomon responding for the Bisons at 17:03. The final score, Sabres 5 and Bisons 2. Tyson Moreland stopped 19 of 21 shots in the win and Wessan Chisholm turned aside 20 of 22 and Max Hartel stopped 11 of 14 in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Chace Turchak for the Bisons and Jayden Halabi for the Sabres. The Sabres capture the bronze medal and the Bisons will finish 4th. Congrats to both teams on a great tournament and season.

Game 12 (Gold Medal game): Red Deer Rebels (4) vs Calgary Northstars (1)
The Gold Medal game was played in front of a packed house at the Servus Arena. The Rebels and Northstars put on a show. The Rebels got off to a quick start as Jaxon Jaffray tipped in a shot just over a minute into the first period. The teams battled hard for the rest of the period in fast paced action. The rebels were able to double their lead in the final minute of the period as Noah Ulry slid one past Mason McDougall to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead after one period of play. The Rebels outshot the Northstars 16-14. The second period brought more fast paced action, with each team getting chances to score but the goalies stood tall and the period ended the way the first did with the Rebels holding onto a 2-0 lead. The shots after two periods were 22-18 for the Rebels. The third period was as action packed as the other periods. The Rebels took a 3 goal lead on a nice individual effort by Madden Daneault at 7:52. The Northstars got on the board when Damien Lavalleefound the back of the net at 12:58. The Northstars put the pressure on to get closer but Daneault, with his second of the game, scored into an empty net 18:56 to seal the Rebels victory. Lane Bullee stopped 34 of 35 shots in the victory, while Mason McDougall turned aside 30 of 33 shots in the loss. The ATB players of the game were Noah Ulry for the Rebels and Solomon Leyden for the Northstars. Congratulations to both teams on a great game and an amazing season.
